8.1 Security levels

The Security button changes the current security and privacy levels in the Internet Explorer. It is first of all a convenient way to disable script execution before surfing pages with many pop-up windows.

The toolbar defines three different security levels: Very High, High and Medium. High and medium are almost identical to the corresponding Microsoft security levels, which are called High, Medium, Medium-Low and Low.

Besides changing the security level the Security button changes the privacy level. The privacy level decides how cookies are handled. Cookies are disabled when the security level is set to Very High or High from the toolbar.

The active security level is indicated on the Security button. shows that the current security level is Very High. shows that the current security level is High. shows that the current security level is Medium. shows that the current security level is none of the above.

The security level cannot be set to anything below Medium level from the toolbar (Medium is the default security level in the Internet Explorer).

To change the current security level click the Security button. The change does not affect pages that are already loaded by the Internet Explorer.

To disable script execution (and pop-up windows) set the security level to Very High or High.
