The Download Toolbar for Microsoft Internet Explorer is first of all an easy-to-use and convenient download manager. It may not be the fastest download manager available, and other download managers may be more configurable. But because the download toolbar is located inside the Internet Explorer it only takes a single click to start a download session once you find the files you want. Also, having a download manager inside the Internet Explorer means that you don't have to reenter login information if you want to download files from a password protected site.
Clicking the Download button in the toolbar creates a gallery (a folder on your hard disk) containing the files linked to from the current web page. The files can be viewed and organized inside the Internet Explorer.
The toolbar download settings can changed to suit specific needs. By changing settings you can make the toolbar either download pictures from a thumbnail gallery, all movies on a web site or simply all the pictures that can be found by surfing from a given web page (limited by the size of your hard disk and other resources, of course).
Downloaded pictures can be viewed individually by using the Next and Previous buttons in the toolbar, or they can be viewed as slideshows. Downloaded movies can be played from inside the Internet Explorer and downloaded documents can be opened.
The toolbar lets you assign meta data to the downloaded galleries. It has a meta data based search function, which makes the toolbar a small database as well.
Download description files makes it possible to share galleries with friends. A download description file tells the toolbar how to download a specific gallery. Download description files can be emailed or uploaded to web servers. The toolbar automatically starts downloading when you open or click on a download description file in the Internet Explorer.
